What is Nephrology?

Nephrology is a sub-specialty of internal medicine. Nephrologists who are at the same time internists rather play a role in the investigation of the causes of renal insufficiency, hypertension, electrolyte (sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus) disorders and urinary anomalies (blood in urine, protein/albumin in urine), and identification of treatment options, protection and monitoring of renal functions. They undertake evaluation and solution of systemic diseases (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, rheumatic diseases), acute and instantly-developing clinical conditions (dehydration, cardiac insufficiency, blood poisoning-sepsis), adverse effects of regularly-used medications on kidneys (chemotherapy, anti-rheumatic drugs,, cortisones), and planning and implementation of renal replacement therapies (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, kidney transplant), and lifelong monitoring of these patients.

At the Nephrology Department of Anadolu Medical Center, we provide a range of services including the diagnosis of renal diseases, the taking of preventive measures, and treatment.
