PET-CT
What is PET/CT?
PET/CT Omni Legend (Positron Emission Tomography / Computed Tomography) is a new device supported by artificial intelligence. Today, PET/CT Omni Legend, which is used worldwide for cancer diagnosis and monitoring treatment, provides numerous benefits for both physicians and patients.
The images obtained with PET-CT Omni Legend are digitally transferred directly to the computer, and these images are used for radiotherapy planning.
What is PET (Positron Emission Tomography)?
Cancer cells obtain the energy they need for growth and proliferation from glucose. In PET technology, glucose is labeled with a radioactive substance and injected into the patient. Subsequently, cancerous tissue that has absorbed the radioactive glucose is imaged externally. While PET is highly reliable in determining whether there is cancer in an abnormal-looking tissue, it does not provide sufficient anatomical information, leaving questions about the location of the tumor or whether the area holding the labeled glucose belongs to normal tissue.
What is CT (Computed Tomography)?
CT imaging, commonly known as tomography, is a method that allows detailed visualization of the body's anatomical structure. CT provides information about the location and size of tumors; however, it does not determine whether these are benign or malignant lesions.
The Combination of PET and CT
PET/CT Omni Legend is based on combining PET, which provides images of cell metabolism, and CT, which provides anatomical details, into a single device. This allows both the metabolic function of cells and anatomy to be comprehensively imaged in a single session by one device. Physicians can thus obtain detailed and accurate information about the patient’s anatomical and metabolic condition with three-dimensional images. PET/CT Omni Legend enables the rapid and accurate diagnosis of cancer and heart diseases.
During cancer treatment, PET-CT Omni Legend is used to monitor treatment response, allowing the structural and functional characteristics of the tumor to be determined and the treatment area to be accurately identified. At the same time, it enables the preservation of healthy tissue around the tumor as much as possible. Compared to other planning methods, it significantly reduces side effects related to radiotherapy while allowing high doses of radiation to be delivered to the tumor.
PET/CT Omni Legend is also particularly valuable in diagnosing brain-related diseases, especially dementia and epilepsy, and enables early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
What Makes PET/CT Omni Legend Technology Different?
- Scanning in half the time
- High-quality imaging
- Detection of tumors as small as 0.5 mm
- Lower radiation exposure (for both patients and technicians)
- More comfortable procedures with AI-supported software
- Higher sensitivity for pediatric patients
- Special lighting system inside the tunnel to reduce claustrophobia
How Does the Procedure Work?
PET/CT Omni Legend has reduced the scanning time from 15 minutes with previous technology to 7–8 minutes. Moreover, this is achieved with much lower radiation exposure for the patient. The doctor can conduct the examination using higher-quality imaging.
What Are the Benefits of PET-CT?
- Diagnosis of cancers with unknown causes
- Accurate staging and tumor localization
- Increased accuracy in treatment monitoring
- Early detection of cancer recurrence
In addition to offering significant advantages over other available diagnostic tools, PET/CT eliminates the need for diagnostic tests involving high levels of radiation. The images obtained with this cutting-edge technology play a critical role in cancer diagnosis and are an essential part of the decision-making process in Tumor Boards.
