European Society for Medical Oncology
Anadolu Medical Centre has been awarded ESMO (European Society for Medical Oncology) accreditation for the 6th time.
As Anadolu Medical Centre, we aim to provide the best healthcare service to our patients with our vision of being a reference center in cancer and our multidisciplinary approach. Accordingly, we were accredited by ESMO as an ESMO Designated Centre of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care. Anadolu Medical Centre's oncology and palliative care department has held this accreditation since 2007. For the continuity of accreditation, certain criteria must be met every 3 years.
ESMO assesses the quality of care for oncology patients and certifies that all their needs are evaluated and the necessary care practices are carried out. Our work in this direction has been accredited for the sixth time by the ESMO Palliative Care Working Group (PCWG), the section of ESMO related to palliative care.
What is ESMO?
The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) is an organization that has been supporting cancer research and professionals in the field of oncology worldwide, especially in Europe, since 1975.
What is ESMO Palliative Care Accreditation?
In 2003, ESMO launched special Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care accreditation programs to ensure high-standard integration of medical oncology and palliative care in cancer centers.
In this program, which aims to fully integrate oncology and palliative care, organizations provide evidence to demonstrate excellent integration of palliative and oncological care under 13 standard headings.
ESMO values palliative care as much as oncological treatments. According to ESMO criteria, an excellent cancer center is not only one that provides radiotherapy or chemotherapy but also one that offers comprehensive support and integrates palliative care into oncological treatment. It requires that all staff involved in patient care, including doctors, nurses, and other employees, are trained in palliative care, and that patients and their families participate in care decisions.
At Anadolu Medical Centre, our aim is to comfort the patient and their family and improve quality of life during and after all stages of diagnosis and treatment, whether oncological treatments are ongoing or completed.
Anadolu Medical Centre has successfully fulfilled the criteria of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and renewed its ESMO accreditation for the 6th time. This reaffirms our excellence in integrating oncology and palliative care.
ESMO accreditation is not easily obtained by all centers. Unlike familiar accreditations, this one requires completing the integration online through a file with high-level scientific care results and documents. This makes it more challenging to achieve and enhances the significance of the accreditation, making it more prestigious. It is a great honor to work for an organization with ESMO accreditation.
In an excellent cancer center, medical oncology, radiotherapy, surgery, pathology, radiology, and nuclear medicine should work in a multidisciplinary manner and be gathered under the same roof. To provide comprehensive service to patients and their families, a pain specialist, nutritionist, and psychologist experienced in cancer care must also be part of the team. This accreditation not only shows that we provide better service to our patients but also proves that we are a reference center in healthcare.
Anadolu Medical Centre, which received Turkey’s first accreditation in 2007, renews the accreditation every three years by meeting all the criteria. It continues to deliver excellent care with a Person-Centered Care and integrated care approach that grows stronger every day.
