Hypertension Does Not Show Symptoms Without Causing Organ Damage
Although not widely known among the public, this is a very serious and important issue. It is defined as an increase in the mass of the heart muscle or thickening due to the accumulation of other tissues and substances within the heart muscle.
Although not widely known among the public, it is a very serious and significant issue. It is defined as an increase in the mass of the heart muscle or thickening due to the accumulation of other tissues and substances within the heart muscle. The main cause of this condition, which can lead to heart failure, is hypertension.
The heart muscles contract due to increased pressure in the arteries, so the condition is most common in patients with hypertension. Muscle cells working against high pressure enlarge and thicken. Heart valve diseases can also lead to thickening of the heart muscle. With thickening, structural changes occur in the heart muscle cells, and problems in blood circulation arise, leading to the onset of structural heart disease.
Irregular heart rhythms and palpitations may occur due to changes in the structure of the heart muscle. Some of these rhythm disturbances can be life-threatening. In certain cases, blood clots can form in the heart, potentially causing stroke if they dislodge. As the disease progresses, heart muscle cells begin to die, leading to decreased thickness, but with impaired contraction ability; the heart can no longer pump blood effectively. Symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, and swelling in the legs may appear, a condition known as congestive heart failure. In the early stages of heart muscle thickening, there may be no symptoms at all.
Those with hypertension and individuals with heart valve disorders are in the high-risk group.
Preventing hypertension generally means preventing heart muscle thickening. Regular health check-ups, early detection, and treatment of hypertension, maintaining an ideal body weight, reducing salt intake, and avoiding smoking are key measures that reduce the likelihood of hypertension and play an important role in prevention.
