This organ breaks down the food taken into the body using enzymes and acids, and sends the liquefied food to the small intestine for absorption. In addition to enzymes, the process of food breakdown is supported by contractions and compressions. To protect itself from the enzymes it secretes, the stomach produces a mucous-like substance on its inner lining.
Stomach pain is generally referred to as pain located just below the left ribs in the abdomen or back, either before or after eating, especially on an empty stomach. Stomach pain is often accompanied by sensations like heartburn. It can be a sign of conditions such as colitis, gastritis, reflux, ulcers, stomach cancer, indigestion, or gallstones. If severe stomach pain lasts for 1-2 days, it is important to consult a specialist doctor. If stomach pain is accompanied by diarrhea, it could indicate food poisoning. In such cases, seeking immediate medical attention is advised.
A healthy and balanced diet is very important for relieving stomach pain, which can reduce the quality of life and cause discomfort.
