11 Tips for a Healthy Sleep Routine for Children Aged 0-3 Years
The moment children start speaking is eagerly awaited in every family. Anadolu Medical Center Pediatric Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Neşe Karaaslan Bıyıklı offers suggestions to guide parents through this learning process.
Games and Toys Play a Direct Role in Speech Development
The games parents play with their babies or the toys they provide directly influence the child's speech development. Television negatively affects language development during the first 3 years. During this process, parents are encouraged to sing songs, play rhymes and riddles with their children, and use toy animals for imaginative play.
The Impact of Technology on Language Development
Children of Generation Z, born in the age of computers and the internet, experience both the benefits and the harms of technology. While these children explore the world without limits through technology, watching television and playing computer games, especially before the age of 3, negatively impacts language development. Language development occurs between the ages of 2-5 years. Factors influencing language development include intelligence, hearing and visual perception, the environment the child lives in, and socioeconomic conditions.
Babies begin to learn language by mimicking. Verbal stimuli provided by the mother positively support language development. Talking to the child, playing games, and reading books are crucial for language development. Parents need to talk with their children and show that they are listening. When the child responds to sounds, encouraging them and providing positive feedback with visible satisfaction is important. This way, the child is encouraged to learn and try. Playing in less crowded and quieter places is more beneficial.
