Should Laser Hair Removal Be Done During Adolescence?
Feet that are kept in a stuffy environment for long hours and neglected in care bring about many diseases in daily life. From foot fungi causing itching and odor to ingrown toenails, corns resulting from thickened skin, and warts appearing in various parts of the foot, many conditions reduce individuals' quality of life. Dermatology Specialists at Anadolu Health Center provided important information about common foot diseases and their treatment.
Among the most commonly seen diseases on the feet is fungal infection, which usually starts between the toes and spreads to the soles of the feet. The shared use of shoes or slippers in pools, saunas, baths, changing rooms, and shower cabins is the most significant factor contributing to the formation of foot fungus. In the initial stages of the disease, topical medications may be used for treatment. However, in advanced stages, various treatments under specialist supervision must be applied to prevent the fungus from spreading to the toenails and recurring.
Corns arise due to many factors, from improper shoe selection to walking barefoot, and from the pressure and friction the foot is subjected to throughout the day. They cause the skin on the foot to harden and thicken. To care for corns, regular moisturizers or nourishing body oils should be applied after bathing. In advanced stages of corns, dermatological treatment must be applied.
Ingrown toenails, which deform the shape of the foot and cause severe pain, can be resolved without surgical intervention. There is no need for surgical extraction of the nail with a wire system, preventing the nail from ingrowing again. Those experiencing ingrown toenails should be careful in their choice of shoes, opting for models that are appropriate for their foot structure and do not apply pressure to the foot.
Another infection seen on the foot is warts, which are transmitted through direct contact. A wart, or its medical name verruca, is a common condition caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Walking barefoot in summer, along with shared areas and items, facilitates its spread. If left untreated, warts can proliferate. Early diagnosis and initiation of dermatological treatment are advisable. In cases where topical medications do not yield results, techniques such as cryotherapy, which involves freezing with liquid nitrogen, or cauterization may be utilized.
