How to Get Rid of Brown Spots on the Body?
Experts in Dermatology at Anadolu Medical Center offer advice to teenage girls and their parents who wish to get rid of unwanted hair at an early age regarding the effects of laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal is one of the methods used to prevent and eliminate unwanted hair on the body. Laser hair removal can be applied to almost all skin types and ages, with the intervals and duration of sessions varying depending on the treated area and skin type. The target tissue in laser hair removal is the pigment cells in the hair follicles. The stem cells that promote the growth of pigment cells are located in the hair follicles and the central parts of the hair shaft, known as the "bulb." Hair growth occurs in three stages: active growth (anagen), shedding (catagen), and resting (telogen). The length of these stages varies by area, which is why the intervals between laser sessions differ depending on the treated area. Laser hair removal treatments should be performed at the beginning of the active growth phase, known as the "anagen" phase. Laser hair removal is only effective on thick and dark hair. It is not effective on light or fine hair. During the resting phase, known as telogen, there are no pigment cells in the hair follicles.
Androgen hormones are responsible for the growth and development of hair. Androgens are secreted from the testes in men and from the ovaries and adrenal glands in women. The excessive hair growth caused by hormonal changes during puberty can become a concern for adolescents and their families. During puberty, from ages 12 to 16 (or 18), hormonal production and the sensitivity of hair follicles to these hormones are heightened. Laser hair removal performed at this age is not very effective in removing hair, and results may take longer to appear. Laser hair removal is not recommended for those under 16 years of age. If there are conditions such as ovarian cysts or other factors that increase hair growth, and laser hair removal is absolutely necessary, longer intervals between sessions should be observed. Additionally, hormonal tests related to the cause of excessive hair growth must be conducted before starting laser hair removal.
